There are a variety of methods for safe Lead Based Paint (LBP) removal depending on the application, surface area, occupants, coating or substrate. Knowing which removal or hazard abatement measure is right for you can save you time, money and produce the safest outcome all while working within the State and Federal regulations.
In Wisconsin Lead (Pb) paint and related activities are regulated by the Department of Health Services (DHS.Wisconsin.gov) under the Guidelines DHS 163.
For Child occupied and residential concerns HUD regulations and EPA Guidelines also apply.
OSHA has strict guidelines for Lead in Construction, under section 29 CFR 1926.62, and are tasked with enforcing worker safety and occupational issues.
CHEMICAL STRIPERS
- Our projects include removal of Lead Based Paints on steel using chemical strippers to remove up to 35 mils of assorted paints and coatings – including epoxy.
- Coatings can also be removed from other surfaces such as fiber glass, copper, tin, and other metals.
WET / DRY ABRASIVE BLAST
- We recommend the use of stabilizing agents prior to abrasive blasting. There are many great products on the market to choose from including Enviro Prep made here in Wisconsin.
- Wet abrasive blasting has many advantages and can save both time and money due to reduced Enclosure and Containment measures. Our specialized equipment can remove LBP coatings from various substrates including CMU, brick, steel, concrete and many other porous surfaces.
DEMOLITION
- If you are moving or removing industrial machinery, consider us for the lead abatement; older machines have the potential to be coated with lead based paints.
- Check for LBP before cutting any old piping in industrial applications as fumed released from cutting operations are extremely dangerous.
